Homemade salsa?

Anyone have a good recipe for salsa? I hate that store bought shit, it's so wimpy. May as well be ketchup. As some of you probably know, I love super hot peppers, but I'm curious what else you would put in a salsa besides the obvious chile peppers.

It depends on what kind of Salsa you want to make. there are so many different verities, and ways to make it, that go far beyond the red, green, corn, etc.

And hook up with someone from Texas on here. In the U.S. Texas cooking exercises more pepper varieties than anywhere else, and that includes places like New Mexico.

I would love to know this as well. I used to have a recipe for salsa but I lost it in the midst of moving. I can tell you this --- you will need an avacado, some tomatoes if you want to really make it from scratch, only half an onion unless you are a big onion phanatic, and olives are optional. I feel like I am missing some vegetables. But there are a variety of spices you can try like cayen pepper or crushed red pepper. I would recommend getting your hands on a food processor unless you all ready have one, because it is very difficult to break the stuff down to the consistency of a salsa by hand. I hope this is of some help.

you want chunky or like smooth blended salsa? I have a recipe for both that I think you may like.
I also made a mango peach salsa the other day that was quite tasty but that was definitely more sweet than spicey.

Smoothe. Mango's awesome, too. I made a regular hot sauce years ago with mango juice, I just can't recall the rest of the ingredients.

So I usually play around with the ingredients below but it's a good place to start. You can use a can of whole tomatoes with juice in place of fresh tomatoes if you prefer as well as throwing in a can of Rotel for extra chunkiness/spice. I personally stick to all fresh veggies.

4-5 tomatoes
1 white onion
1/2 cup cilantro
4 cloves garlic
2 habanero peppers
1 jalapeno pepper
juice of 1 lemon
salt and pepper to taste (usually a tsp or twoish)
coarsely blend in food processor or blender. Voila.
some people also add a bit of sugar to balance out the acidity.

For chunky you can really use the above ingredients but dice instead of blend.

To add to the amazingness. Get some corn tortias and bake them in the oven to
make home made chips.

Nah. store bought ones are good enough for me. I also put salsa on mac and cheese. Good stuff.
